Adapted from the 23 September 2026 plan. The proposed system is open to development with participants.

Resource a worthwhile beginning

The first budget conversation would look at coordination, accessibility, transport, supplies, equipment, software, support and learning from the pilot. Grants, donations, sponsorship, cooperative finance and commercial income offer different possibilities depending on the activity. Those exploring them would establish what resources are actually available and on what terms.

The Stradbroke Grants Lab is designed to help organise funding opportunities and applications. Community wealth and mutual ownership proposals can support longer-term shared assets and enterprise. Their financial arrangements remain separate from C-hours. Funding may enable an activity or a reward without becoming money backing the recorded hour.

Separate funding makes the practical picture easier to understand. A paid coordinator, volunteer host and donated supplies may all support the same afternoon. Their contributions meet in the same experience, while money, human hours and results answer different questions. None of those records makes the C-hour a monetary claim.

Notice what is improving

What would tell participants that this is worth continuing? Recognition of existing care, less administrative effort, enjoyment, returning friendships, useful skills and manageable hosting are possible signs. People involved would choose what matters and how to notice it. Food saved or a demonstrated skill might offer concrete examples, while clinical and ecological questions call for evidence appropriate to those claims.

For the participant

Was an existing contribution recognised? Did the experience bring useful help, enjoyment, a new skill or a friendship? Did someone feel able to pause, correct a record or leave?

For the host

Was the activity manageable? Did the tools reduce effort? What support, resources or changes would make another gathering worthwhile?

For the shared project

What actually changed? A repaired item, food used or a demonstrated skill gives an outcome record substance. A larger hour total alone cannot establish success.

Let experience earn trust

Trust is something to earn through the experience. Did this save someone effort, provide useful help or bring enjoyment? Did it create another burden, an unexpected cost or pressure to give more? Was a concern heard, and did anything change afterwards? These questions belong with participants, including those who lose interest or leave. A growing ledger is less persuasive than people finding the experience worth their time.

Unexpected results matter too. A friendship, an idea or renewed confidence may be the reason someone returns. Participants’ own accounts would help reshape the ledger, the activities and the questions we ask next.

One useful next step

For the first host conversation, bring one activity people would like to do, one person willing to help organise it and one clear next step. The whole ecosystem does not have to be finished before someone has a worthwhile afternoon. Each well-supported beginning can add another capable person, another shared resource and another path through the adventure.
