Adapted from the 23 September 2026 plan. The proposed system is open to development with participants.
A braided economy
Mutual Futures explores a braided economy. The ordinary market economy remains part of everyday life: people earn wages, run businesses, buy what they need and invest in what comes next. Alongside and through those exchanges run care, reciprocity, shared ownership and the voluntary contributions that keep households and communities going. The C-hour is proposed as a way to recognise and connect those contributions as the strands develop together.
The hope is that this braid helps steady society through the AI transition. As tools and working lives change, relationships, practical care and shared capability offer continuity. C-hours might help overlooked contributions become visible, connect someone’s experience with another person’s need, carrying trust and learning between projects. This is a bridge towards healthier, happier, more resilient and responsible lives, with its practical form shaped through the pilots.

When a business owner starts a new chapter
Mutual Futures begins with an everyday question carrying enormous possibility. When the owner of a viable business retires or wants to sell and begin a new chapter, could its people, customers, skills and productive assets continue through mutual ownership? A fair transition could preserve what has been built while giving more people a stake in what comes next. [P1]
A willing business owner and the people who know the business would bring the idea into practical conversation. Operations, obligations, knowledge, ownership, funding and the owner’s preferred next chapter would shape any proposal. Paid mentoring and AI-assisted contribution or improvements are possibilities to explore with the team, on terms they develop together.
A network of such enterprises could connect everything a modern civilisation and its citizens require to live wholesome enjoyable lives, such as food, care, repair, construction, art, creative production, entertainment, education, sports, logistics and technology. Income and member wealth would arise from the enterprise arrangements. Alongside that, C-hours offer a way to recognise voluntary mentoring, shared learning, community care and the work of bringing people together. These strands meet in the same lives and places: a successful business might support a community project, while relationships and skills grown through that project strengthen the wider local economy. The hour itself remains non-monetary.
Try Everything Once
The idea of a Try Everything Once workforce initiative invites people to discover different kinds of work through supported experience while enhancing their potential. Someone may keep a profession they love, explore a new interest or combine several strengths. A stable home base, paid supervised placements and an agreed return or next step make exploration practical.
Just-in-time learning connects instruction with a real task. AI and extended reality offer ways to explore that connection. A learner could ask their digital Aura for an explanation, practise in a simulation, watch a demonstration, see directions via smart glasses and work with a capable mentor through telepresence. The record could then show what they have actually learned and what support they still need. They choose what to share with a mentor or prospective host; a learning record does not automatically expose their wider personal Aura. Qualified and experienced people remain essential wherever the work requires them, but AI could be made available where it is required and requested.
Within Try Everything Once and just-in-time learning, the C-hour offers a thread connecting what someone learns with what they later share. A person exploring a new field might help a community project, learn alongside others and eventually guide the next newcomer. An agent-supported contribution history could bring those experiences together with the person’s chosen learning record. Learners, mentors and hosts would help explore what recognition feels useful, with paid placements and paid teaching retaining their ordinary arrangements.
Ready Sustainable Employment and Training Cooperative, or Ready S.E.T. Co-op, is proposed as a connecting organisation for hosts, mentors, learning records, equipment, paid release and handovers. The name plays on ready, set, go: help people take the next step, and play with the boldness and joy of a responsible competitive environment. Begin with a participant, a willing host, an achievable task and a clear arrangement for supervision, pay and responsibilities.
Rest, learning and universal capability
Intermittent Retirement gives rest, family, recovery, travel and learning a place throughout life. Start by sketching a person's preferred next chapter, then work out income, staffing cover and return arrangements. Productivity gains would then contribute where they create real capacity and resources. The programme needs an agreed financial and employment arrangement to turn a preference into supported time away.
During Intermittent Retirement, someone might enjoy sharing experience, caring for family, joining a creative project or helping in a place they visit. C-hours offer continuity for those contributions across changing chapters of life. Rest is part of the same picture. Recognition is intended to support reciprocal relationships, not create another obligation to stay productive or earn the right to take time away.
Universal Intelligence expresses the ambition of practical access to learning, creation and powerful tools. Universal Adequate Income opens a question about sufficiency across different lives, housing, care and health circumstances as productive wealth increases with AI. Mutual enterprises offer one possible contribution through productive assets, income and services. People outside those enterprises belong in the conversation too. Adequacy remains a shared question to explore and resource.
Leadership and new enterprises
The 500 Queens Venture Capital concept adds a pathway for women to develop enterprise leadership, mentorship and access to backing. It aims to repair the massive inequality in start-up venture capital investment in women-led enterprises. Begin with a real problem, a person interested in leading and a piece of work that can demonstrate the idea. The AI Queens Council of Aura is proposed to support exploration through creative AI perspectives alongside human mentors.
The same braid runs through enterprise development. People might voluntarily help explore a community need, test an idea, share knowledge or support an emerging founder. C-hours would give that human contribution a place alongside the separately recorded investment, paid work and ownership arrangements. Contributors and founders would help shape appropriate recognition and thanks. That makes the support around an enterprise visible without turning contribution hours into money or an equity claim.
Connected places and possibilities
The proposed Minjerribah network includes different sites and opportunities. The 82 Claytons Road, Amity Anglican partnership proposal concerns a possible gift and aged-care partnership. The 9 Ballow Road proposal for Ready Sustainable Employment and Training Cooperative with local AI compute cluster and 7 Mile Indigenous cultural experiences concepts have their own purposes and development paths. These proposals are adjacent potential new pathways for local opportunities, while the C-hour pilot can begin with willing hosts and available places.
Across these possibilities, the C-hour is a connecting thread through a person’s own adventure. A community activity might lead to learning, a paid opportunity, mutual enterprise, a period of care or a new creative direction. Market income helps sustain everyday life; reciprocity and shared capability help people sustain one another. The pilot would explore how the ledger makes those relationships easier to notice and strengthen, especially for people already giving a great deal with little recognition. The ambition is a braid that earns trust through practical benefit as people shape their future together.
