The one page allowed to talk shop

Colophon

Every other page on this site speaks in Luke's own voice. This one is the exception: how the site itself is put together, for anyone curious about the machinery.

How it's built

Plain files. No build step.

Every page is an ordinary HTML file with one shared stylesheet and a couple of small scripts, served by GitHub Pages exactly as they sit in the repository. There's nothing to install and nothing to compile: any page opens straight from the folder.

What it holds itself to

Fast, honest, and yours.

Light by default

Self-hosted fonts, lazy-loaded images, zero third-party requests on load. Videos never autoplay a live player; you choose when to load one.

Honest labelling

Where something exists today, it's linked. Where it doesn't yet, the page simply describes it: no fake "coming soon" badges, no dead ends either.

Built in the open

Published before it was finished, on purpose, so the build itself is visible rather than saved for one big reveal.

Self-sovereign in practice

Where the site offers you a tool (like the markdown generators arriving with the Courses hub), it runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you make there is sent anywhere.
