Layer 03 · Recognition
Auric: of gold, from aurum, the Latin name for the metal. Awards for the craft as it actually happens now, chosen by the people in the room and the people at home, with the method on the table. taking shape
The categories
Every category reads from the Maker's Mark (the record on each work saying how it was made). No category grades a method; each one names a craft and honours the best of it.
One song, chosen by members' votes, with the count published after the night. No panel behind a curtain; the vote is the verdict.
For the work where a person and the tools each did something the other could not, and the join is part of the beauty.
Directing, selecting and shaping machine takes is a craft: hearing the one take in a hundred, and knowing why. This category names it.
The Handmade band's own gold: for work made by human hands nearly all the way through, judged beside its own kind.
For the record whose mark and music together tell the fullest story: the shares, the tools, the choices, and songs that carry them.
Designed with First Nations communities and cultural protocols from the start, following the lead of existing Indigenous-led awards rather than copying them. Built on ICIP (Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property: the principle that communities decide how their cultural material is used). These categories take shape with communities, not before them. on the horizon
The shape of the night
Not a television gala. A room you could actually get a ticket to, streamed for everyone who cannot be in it, run to rules everyone can read.
Before entries open: who can vote, how votes are weighed, how ties are broken. Published in full, in plain words, so the night can be checked against them.
Each member votes once per category. A member is a person, not a stream count and not a bot; the People's Chart uses the same footing.
Live music, gold handed over, and a stream anyone can watch. Small enough that the winners can hug the room; wide enough that the country can see it.
After the night, the vote tallies and the method are published where anyone can check them. The outcome is public all the way down.
Who can enter
Any band on the dial: Handmade, Human-led, AI-led or Autonomous. If the work carries a mark and the maker is Australian, the door is open. Pick your band to see where your work fits.
Best Handmade Work is judged beside its own kind, so this band competes on its own ground. Song of the Year and Best Marked Album are open to every band, yours included. The collaboration and direction categories ask about tools this band did not use, so they sit those out.
The widest field: Song of the Year, Best Human and AI Collaboration, and Best Marked Album are all natural homes. Where the tools carried a whole performance, Best Direction of an AI Performance opens too.
Best Direction of an AI Performance was named for this band: the craft of directing, selecting and shaping machine takes. Song of the Year, the collaboration category and Best Marked Album are open as well.
Machine-made, human-published, and still welcome: Song of the Year and Best Marked Album are open to this band. The mark says what the work is; the members decide what they think of it, one vote at a time.
Not marked yet? The mark takes one sitting to fill in, and it answers the entry form here along with every other form downstream.
Where the gold comes from
The chart feeds the awards: a year of members' votes points to the works the people already carried. The mark feeds both, so every nomination says what it is before it says anything else.
