Build a funding case people can examine

The proposed funding pack brings together a delivery group or suitable host, enterprise briefs, a five-year guide, current operating costs and a payment schedule. It should show what each contribution makes possible and who is responsible for delivery. Research requests can include laboratory access, samples, prototypes and a defined next measurement.

500 Queens is at the establishment stage. Luke has contributed the vision and public materials voluntarily, with no money committed and no operating or fundraising role undertaken. Interested people with delivery experience, relationships and backing would be needed to establish the programme.

Four kinds of backing

Enterprise grants

Philanthropists, foundations, sponsors and suitable public programmes could support useful enterprise work. The original guide proposes 100 grants of A$50,000 each year.

Incubator operations

Anchor sponsors, programme funders and an operating host could support staff, premises, learning, mentoring, events and overheads.

Establishment

Founding backers and hosts could help with setup, deposits, systems, professional work or agreed facilities and services.

Investment and succession

Experienced investors, fund operators and succession partners could later support enterprise growth or negotiated business transfers.

The original Australian five-year guide

These are rounded 2021 planning inputs for 100 enterprises annually over five years. Replace them with current costs, programme choices and setup requirements before making an actual funding request.

Make the numbers serve the programme

The original grants take no equity and require no repayment. The derived A$10,000 operating allocation per enterprise pays for pooled incubator services; it is not an additional grant. Leadership participants, grants and executive appointments should be counted separately. Each five-year delivery period begins when funded operations open.

One, five or ten A$50,000 grants give conversation sizes of A$50,000, A$250,000 or A$500,000. Four A$250,000 operating contributions equal the old annual A$1 million guide. The archive also proposes A$5, A$10, A$20, A$50 and A$100 support packs. Any real offer needs priced delivery, with donations, purchases and investment recorded separately.

From commitments to shared prosperity

Compare a suitable host with a dedicated operation. Agree the receiving organisation, spending responsibility, terms and reporting. Match signed commitments to rent, payroll, teaching and grant payments. Calculate the cash still needed in each payment period after confirmed backing and costs replaced by agreed in-kind support.

Investment subscriptions require an experienced fund operator and legal adviser to address structure, licensing and terms. Later investment capital would cover planned investments, follow-on reserves and fund costs.

Mutual Futures adds paid placements, income that meets living needs, ownership participation and time for care, learning and intermittent retirement. After costs, taxes, financing, asset spending and reserves, available cash could support ownership returns, shared services and income or leave arrangements. Measure who benefits and whether those arrangements are funded.

Shape a funding scenario.

Start with the rounded 2021 planning guide, then explore different inputs. These are calculations, not a funding offer, current quote or confirmed backing. All amounts are Australian dollars.

A$30,000,000

A$25,000,000 enterprise grants + A$5,000,000 operations over five years.

500 enterprise grants in this scenario.

Formula: (annual grants × amount per grant + annual operations) × years + setup. Changing yearly costs, inflation and financing are not modelled. Leadership participation is counted separately from enterprise grants.
