Start a community club

A club is never a one-person job. This is a practical playbook for building one that's legal, welcoming and light enough not to burn anyone out. My worked example is an idea I'm floating for a sand sports club on the island; the method is yours, for any club, anywhere.

The idea I'm floating

A sand sports club, still just an idea

Let me be plain about what this is: an idea and my own content about it, nothing more. There is no club yet, no courts, no committee, no site. What there is: a case that the world's second-largest sand island, with an Olympics coming to the nearest city in 2032, is missing an obvious thing. A sand sports club would be a genuine gift to health and mental health here, and it should be all ages and truly inclusive, made for women, girls, families, Elders, young people and visitors alike.

The two honest open questions are where, and who. A club is not a one-man band; if one person is the whole operating system, it's fragile before it starts. So the order matters: you build a trustworthy club first, with shared and mixed leadership, and only then earn the right to use places well. This playbook does not claim any site or assume the courts exist; it treats a purpose-built facility as a horizon, not a starting point.

To make it less abstract, I've sketched one possible version of it at a specific spot: a sand-and-screen hub concept around 10-12 Ballow Road, pairing beach sport with film nights and night-market evenings. Treat that as a worked sketch to think against, not a claim on the place or a decision already made.

Build your own, wherever you are

The method is yours, for any club

Strip away the sand and the island, and what's left is a way to build any community club that lasts. Leadership shared and mixed from the start, with trusted women in it from day one. Admin that's visible and automated wherever it can be, so it doesn't all land on one tired volunteer. AI that helps with the drafts, the reminders, the records and the grant evidence, while people still make every real decision. And a clear line that no one joins a committee to control assets, money, status or mates' favours.

Take it as a worked example and build your own, custom to your town, your sport or your shared thing, and the people who'll actually run it with you. Not a copy of my idea, yours. The short video walks through the pathway, so you can borrow the parts that fit and leave the rest.
