Community wealth & mutuals

This one isn't a Straddie project waiting on people; it's a regional idea you can carry anywhere. It's a plain-English doorway to some big ideas about how a community can hold wealth, protect its people, and keep hold of its own data. Here's what it explores, and how you'd shape it to your own region.

What this explores

Big ideas, in words everyone can follow

This is a plain-English exploration of community wealth funds, mutual protection, data sovereignty and Native Title pathways for the Moreton Bay archipelago. It's written for non-technical everyday Australians, including First Nations people, Elders and volunteers, so the questions come before the legal detail: what would a fund the community actually owns look like, how do people protect each other when times are hard, who holds the community's data, and how do these ideas sit alongside Native Title rather than cutting across it?

None of this is advice or a finished scheme. It's a doorway, a way in, so more people can join a conversation that too often stays locked behind jargon. The wealth here is the community's own: what it holds, shares and looks after, never something to be extracted from it.

Underneath it is a bigger idea: the ledger of ordinary capitalism is broken, and this is part of fixing it. It sits inside the braided economy, where money is only one strand and C-hours (care given and received, counted but never sold) are another. That's why it pairs so closely with health and the mobilisation of care: a community that can hold its own wealth, protect each other through mutuals, and honour the hours people give, is one that has quietly rewritten the rules of who owes whom.

Build your own, wherever you are

Same model, shaped to your region

The reason it lives here, on Aura of Intelligence, is so it's more than one archipelago's story. Take it as a worked example and adapt the model to your own community and region: same ideas, shaped to your people, your Country, your local history and the way decisions are already made where you live. Not a copy of Moreton Bay's, yours, custom to your place and your lived experience.

That's the whole point of building your own tools and systems instead of renting someone else's. You keep what you make, and it grows the way your community does. The short video walks through how I'm approaching it, so you can borrow what fits and leave the rest.
