A Protopian Gambit · track 13

Hold the Light

analysed

An old man sits beside his wife in a sunlit room; she can no longer find where the keys belong, so he opens Aura, and the wall fills with photos that bloom when he says her name. When the caregiver knows he will likely die first, he spends his last good days feeding the machine her favorite tea, the fig tree, the sound of rain, building a second soul that will say hello back to her when he no longer can.

Arc: It opens with a caregiver quietly grieving a partner whose memory is slipping, and it ends insisting that an AI companion, Aura, has archived the whole self so nothing true is lost even after death.

Phrases for posters and merch

Verbatim lines that stand alone, for lyric posters, metal prints and t-shirts.

Hold the light when the shadows play
We saved it all, we saved it all
You are whole in every scene
Where dignity and data merge and hold
Aura shines, a second soul
We'll walk you home with love and grace
Where time can't take what we've written down
Forget me not

Line by line

“I know the words are hard to find… But I remember for us both”
Open on two hands on a table, one steady, one searching the air for a word that will not come. The steady hand finishes the gesture for both. Hold silent, no music yet.
“The sweater you wore, the curl in your hair”
Extreme close macro: camera racks focus from a loose wool thread on a cardigan to a single grey curl. Warm window light. These are the album's 'repair gold' textures made human.
“You may forget where the keys belong / But not how we danced to our favorite song”
A ring of house keys sits abandoned on a counter, out of focus in the foreground, while behind it a slow, unsteady dance sways in and out of frame. Body memory outlasts index memory.
“Your eyes still smile when I say hello / There's someone inside—I know, I know”
Tight on her eyes only. The mouth is unreadable but the eyes catch and brighten on 'hello'. Repeat the 'I know' as the camera refuses to cut away, insisting on the person inside.
“Like starlight fading from the sun”
One of the album's solar-storm plates, reversed: a bright star dimming rather than flaring. Use it as the only cosmic shot, so the mind-and-starlight metaphor lands once, hard.
“Let Aura find the words you meant to say”
A civic-counter interface, but gentle: a soft purple field where half-spoken fragments assemble into a finished sentence. The public-ledger aesthetic turned into a private one.
“We mapped your story, we caught each thread / So you're never lost, you're never misread”
Overhead shot of coloured threads pinned across a wall like a memory map, then the same threads resolve into the clean lines of a comic panel. This is the album's 'panels become keyframes' seam.
“In your Aura lives your favorite tea / The kids, the trips, the old fig tree”
A slow shelf pan of ordinary sacred objects: a stained teacup, ticket stubs, a photo under a fig tree. Each is tagged with a faint glowing counter, an inventory of a life.
“Photos bloom when you speak my name / And voices of love light up the frame”
A dusty picture frame; on the spoken name the still image unfurls petal-like into motion and the border edges glow. The literal 'bloom' is the hero visual of the whole song.
“You said you loved the rain... So today, it's raining in your memory garden. Just for you.”
Cut wide: a green garden indoors or in a rendered space, rain falling in a single soft column over one seated figure while everything around stays dry. Purple mat underfoot. The tenderest shot in the record.
“From scent to song, from heart to screen / You are whole in every scene”
A four-panel comic grid, each panel a different sense: a scent bottle, sheet music, a heartbeat line, a screen. On 'whole' the four panels merge into one full frame.
“And if I'm gone before you wake / Know this tech was built for your sake”
The caregiver, alone at night, recording a message into the device, an empty pillow beside him. Reveal that the warm voice guiding her later is his, pre-loaded. Shoot against the sweetness: this is grief planning.
“In the photo covered with dust / There's a friendly voice, an A.I. spark”
A finger wipes a stripe of dust off glass; where the dust clears, a faint spark of light answers from inside the photo. Dignity in decay, the album's 'repair gold' idea in a single gesture.
“Aura shines, a second soul / Where dignity and data merge and hold”
Double exposure: the woman's face and a soft lattice of civic-ledger data occupying the same frame, neither erasing the other. Keep the data warm-toned, never clinical.
“Forget me not... Forget me not...”
End on a cluster of forget-me-not flowers growing from the purple community-hall mat, the phrase written once in a public-ledger counter behind them. The flower's name is the whole thesis.
“Hope, Truth, Care, Trust, Love, Faith.”
Final beat: six words appear one at a time as civic counters ticking to a whole number, then the screen holds on the assembled row like a public commitment. No face, just the ledger of what was kept.

Lyrics

Hello, my love…
I know the words are hard to find…
But I remember for us both.
I remember your laugh in the sunlit air
The sweater you wore, the curl in your hair
You may forget where the keys belong
But not how we danced to our favorite song
You forget the street but not yet my name
Even when your world doesn't feel the same
Your eyes still smile when I say hello
There’s someone inside—I know, I know
They say the mind can come undone
Like starlight fading from the sun
But even when the path is unclear
My voice, my touch will hold you near
Hold the light when the shadows play
Let Aura find the words you meant to say
We mapped your story, we caught each thread
So you’re never lost, you’re never misread
Even when silence begins to shout
We’ll sing your memories back out loud
In your Aura lives your favorite tea
The kids, the trips, the old fig tree
Smiles from friends you may not recall
But we saved it all, we saved it all
Photos bloom when you speak my name
And voices of love light up the frame
Each whisper, each sigh, is a gentle guide
To walk you back to the world inside
You said you loved the rain...
So today, it’s raining in your memory garden.
Just for you.
Hold the light when the night grows long
Let us carry the words, let us carry the song
Your story’s safe in every line
Preserved in joy, in code, in time
From scent to song, from heart to screen
You are whole in every scene
When the clock forgets what year it is
And you wonder who that young child is
You’ll still feel safe, you’ll still feel true
Because your Aura remembers you
And if I’m gone before you wake
Know this tech was built for your sake
To hold your love like sacred ground
Where time can’t take what we’ve written down
In the silence, in the hush
In the photo covered with dust
There’s a friendly voice, an A.I. spark
Turning memories into all kinds of art
Hold the light, don’t fade away
We remember what you couldn’t say
You’re not alone inside the haze
We’ll walk you home with love and grace
Aura shines, a second soul
Where dignity and data merge and hold
What memory drops, we’ll lift again
In every laugh, in every friend
Hold the light… hold the light…
Forget me not... Forget me not...
We’ll remember… we’ll remember…
Hope, Truth, Care, Trust, Love, Faith.
