Choose one phenomenon to observe and define resolution, timing and acceptable data gaps.

100K Solar System Satellite Web
Work backwards from a useful observation to the smallest satellite network that could provide it.
Follow the connections. Choose your direction.
The need worth working on.
The archive's 100,000-satellite title expresses solar-system ambition. A practical design process starts with an observation that matters, the people who need it and the limits of existing data. Network size is an outcome of the mission requirements, not a target that should override usefulness, cost or responsible operation.
What the enterprise could offer.
Create a mission-design workbench comparing purchased data, ground instruments, a single spacecraft and a small network. Model coverage, communications, power, data volume and failure recovery before considering larger constellations. The enterprise could first sell analysis, simulation or an instrument component with an independently testable requirement.
People to build with
- Science mission teams
- Instrumentation startups
- Students and community-science groups
One observation requirement
Compare publicly available information with the proposed new measurement to establish the actual gap.
Simulate a small set of mission architectures and document every assumed input.
Ask an independent mission engineer to review the weakest link and specify a ground-based component test.
The first result
A mission trade study, reproducible simulation and one component-level test brief.
What needs to be demonstrated.
Research frontier
The starting evidence
Virtual Solar Swarm is a related design study, with teaching models rather than launched hardware.
The open question
Whether a new spacecraft or network is needed, and what architecture could satisfy the chosen requirement.
The next measurement
Useful observation coverage and data quality per complete mission cost under failure scenarios.
Build the means to deliver.
Useful capabilities and resources
- Mission and instrument specialists
- Public orbit and environment data
- Communications and power modelling
A possible business model
Start with mission analysis, educational software or a qualified component. A large constellation would need separate customers, finance and mission authorisation.
A leadership decision to practise
Set a mission value test that can justify reducing the network dramatically when a simpler architecture works.
People, consequences and decisions.
- Communications may constrain the network more than sensors.
- Launch and replacement assumptions may be optimistic.
- Illustrations can make an unbuilt system appear operational.
If equality were being designed now...
- Who can challenge mission priorities and decide which observations would serve women and communities most usefully?
- Could women outside established space organisations own and lead a defined instrument, analysis or operations contribution?
Begin with women's own experiences across bodies, ages, cultures and places. Invite disagreement and choose a practical change together.

Aura, a transcultural intelligence archetype
Bring the parts into a system people can trust.
Build alongside these ideas.
Test the assumptions behind an island spaceport before proposing a site or construction programme.
Speculative concept
Make space-weather observations easier to compare, explain and connect to operational decisions.
Research frontier
Help observers turn asteroid measurements into clear, traceable understanding of objects near Earth.
Practical pilot
Support contamination-response planning with accountable records and specialist-led evidence.
Engineering development
Follow existing public concept work.
Design a possible network of satellites using interactive orbit, sensor, launch and communications tools.
Explore shared local computing alongside sustainable employment, training, media, making and cultural collaboration.
From the original suggestion to a working brief.
Original concept from 500 Queens VC NEW Long, slide 15; current context from the September 2026 planning document. This expanded brief and pilot are proposed development, not evidence of an operating enterprise or confirmed partnership.
Original title: 100K Solar System Satellite Web. The pilot, business model and learning connections on this page are proposed developments of that original idea.
