Interview a prospective buyer about the product form, quality evidence and purchasing conditions they require.

Insects
Explore an insect enterprise from the customer's product requirements back to the production system.
Follow the connections. Choose your direction.
The need worth working on.
Insects can be discussed as food, feed or a way to use organic materials, but those are different businesses with different requirements. The first task is to choose a product and willing buyer, then understand accepted inputs, quality, handling and operating conditions. A circular story alone does not establish a market.
What the enterprise could offer.
Develop a small business study around an appropriate existing production partner, focused on a clearly defined output. Compare sourcing, processing, customer acceptance and residue handling. Regional women with farming, food or logistics experience could lead the customer conversation and decide whether production, aggregation or a service is the useful opportunity.
People to build with
- Prospective feed or food buyers
- Existing insect producers
- Regional circular-economy groups
A buyer-led product specification
Choose an existing qualified producer or research partner and map permitted inputs and handling requirements.
Evaluate an authorised sample through appropriate quality testing and customer feedback.
Prepare a full material and labour account, including unsold output and production residues.
The first result
A buyer specification, sample evaluation and production-partnership brief.
What needs to be demonstrated.
Practical pilot
The starting evidence
The source lists insects as a closed-loop food theme. It supplies no approved species, feedstock, food product or production facility.
The open question
Whether a defined output can satisfy a real buyer at a price that covers quality control and consistent supply.
The next measurement
Accepted sample quality, buyer willingness to trial, labour per batch and the complete material balance.
Build the means to deliver.
Useful capabilities and resources
- Qualified production partner
- Current food or feed compliance advice
- A prospective buyer
A possible business model
Explore contract production, aggregation or a customer-specific product with an established operator before building a facility.
A leadership decision to practise
Select one market and its quality requirements before committing to a species, substrate or production technology.
People, consequences and decisions.
- A waste input may be unsuitable for the intended product.
- Customer acceptance may differ from survey enthusiasm.
- Inconsistent batches can undermine supply agreements.
If equality were being designed now...
- Would women preparing, buying or producing the chosen insect product accept its taste, handling and cultural fit?
- Can women doing production help decide the operating routine and share ownership of any resulting enterprise?
Begin with women's own experiences across bodies, ages, cultures and places. Invite disagreement and choose a practical change together.

From the original suggestion to a working brief.
Original concept from 500 Queens VC NEW Long, slide 16; current context from the September 2026 planning document. This expanded brief and pilot are proposed development, not evidence of an operating enterprise or confirmed partnership.
Original title: Insects. The pilot, business model and learning connections on this page are proposed developments of that original idea.
