A Protopian Gambit · track 20
Heliospheric Lantern
analysed
A night-shift keeper of a community hall's civic counter falls asleep at the ledger as an aurora blooms outside; the Sun, narrating, watches over the sleeping town through 'coronal arcs and quiet streams.' By dawn the keeper wakes to builders arriving, and the private word 'me' has quietly become 'we' on the board.
Arc: Begins as the Sun introducing itself in solitary first person ('You know me as Sol or Sun'), and ends dissolving that solitude into 'we' and the promise that 'you are never alone.'

Phrases for posters and merch
Verbatim lines that stand alone, for lyric posters, metal prints and t-shirts.
A lantern in the heliosphere's name
Among the stars, I burn
I guard the time you keep
In the spiral dance where starfields burn
I am the fire you call your own
But I am never alone
And you are never alone
Your days are woven in my light
Line by line
“The local star of Earth”
Open tight on the word 'local': the Sun framed like a neighbourhood shopkeeper's sign, humble and small against the galaxy, not a god. Warm hall-lamp colour, not blinding white.
“A lantern in the heliosphere's name”
The literal hero image: one paper-warm lantern hung in a black void, a taut light-boundary bubble drawn faintly around it. Comic panel that holds as a keyframe.
“Through coronal arcs and quiet streams / I've lit your shadows and your dreams”
Match-cut a looping coronal prominence to a lamp thrown across a child's bedroom wall. Same arc shape, cosmic scale to domestic scale.
“Some blaze in spectral class O's might / Some fade in dwarfs of endless night”
A civic-counter row of stars sorted by class like tokens on a ledger: blue-white giants ticking loud, red dwarfs dimming to near-zero. The Sun sits modestly mid-column.
“I drift the Orion Arm's slow turn”
A very slow roll-camera move, almost imperceptible, over a spiral arm. Emphasise 'slow': let the shot outlast comfort so the turn is felt, not seen.
“Among the stars, I burn”
First chorus stays singular. Isolate the Sun in the frame, everything else pushed to soft bokeh, so the later shift to 'we' lands as a visual widening.
“I guard the time you keep”
Cut to a community hall's civic counter clicking over one number under sunlight through a high window. The star as the town's quiet timekeeper.
“Solar wind hums through plasma veins / Charged with flares and proton rains”
Render the wind as luminous veins under translucent skin, proton rain as fine gold sparks falling. Repair-gold palette, seams glowing.
“C.M.E's carve the magneto-sphere / Auroras bloom where field lines veer”
Show cause and effect in one shot: an ejection strikes, the magnetosphere flexes like a struck sail, and green-purple aurora unfurls precisely along the bent field lines above a purple mat of watchers.
“Twenty-six thousand years a gear”
A single brass gear tooth advancing one click, engraved '26,000'. Deep time made mechanical and civic, like a ledger stamp.
“Through galactic current sheets I glide”
The Sun skating flat along a vast rippling sheet of current, seen edge-on as a thin luminous plane. Serene glide, no turbulence.
“Your days are woven in my light”
Overhead shot of townspeople's daily paths traced as bright threads on the ground, literally woven into a fabric that is sunlight. Builders at dawn crossing the weave.
“In solar minimum and maximum's flight”
A two-frame comic panel: a calm near-spotless disc, then the same disc freckled and roiling. The town's mood board changes with it, quiet versus charged.
“When my hydrogen song grows thin / You'll sail to where new stars begin”
The flame visibly pales and gaunt, then hard cut to a small boat leaving a shore under a sky of newly-lit stars. Grief and departure held gently, no panic.
“Among the stars, we burn ... We guard the time we keep”
Reprise the earlier isolated chorus framing but pull the camera back to reveal the Sun is one light among many, all burning together. The pronoun change is the whole shot.
“I am the fire you call your own / But I am never alone / And you are never alone”
Close on a single hearth or lantern flame held in cupped hands, then rack focus to countless identical flames stretching into the dark of a community hall. End on the reassurance, warm and level.
Lyrics
The local star of Earth
You know me as Sol or Sun
I am your G-type flame
A lantern in the heliosphere’s name
Through coronal arcs and quiet streams
I’ve lit your shadows and your dreams.
Our Galactic Neighbours
Some blaze in spectral class O’s might
Some fade in dwarfs of endless night
I drift the Orion Arm’s slow turn
In the spiral dance where starfields burn
Among the stars, I burn
Through every rise and turn
From micro-nova’s breath to the quiet deep
I guard the time you keep
Solar wind hums through plasma veins
Charged with flares and proton rains
C.M.E's carve the magneto-sphere
Auroras bloom where field lines veer
Precession draws the equinox near
Twenty-six thousand years a gear
Through galactic current sheets I glide
In cosmic rays and electromagnetic tide
Among the stars, I burn
Through every rise and turn
From micro-nova’s breath to the quiet deep
I guard the time you keep
Your days are woven in my light
In solar minimum and maximum’s flight
When my hydrogen song grows thin
You’ll sail to where new stars begin
Among the stars, we burn
Through every rise and turn
From micro-nova’s breath to the quiet deep
We guard the time we keep
Dissolving into the Galaxy
I am the fire you call your own
But I am never alone
And you are never alone
