Songs of Straddie · track 6
Waves of Reflection (By She)
analysed
A woman comes back to the same shoreline spot at low light to sit with the tide, listening for an answer she has been chasing everywhere else. Over the length of one sunset the water keeps rolling in and pulling away, and she stops interrogating the horizon and simply lets the stillness answer for her. She stands up at dusk not with the answer she wanted but stronger, and walks the dune path home.
Arc: Starts sitting still by the shore searching for answers she hasn't found, and ends staying a little while longer, standing up stronger and carried forward by the waves of today.

Phrases for posters and merch
Verbatim lines that stand alone, for lyric posters, metal prints and t-shirts.
Waves of reflection, deep and wide
In the ocean's truth, I can't hide
The water whispers secrets unknown
With every crash, a page is turned
In the stillness, where I find it all
Carried by the waves of today
With each passing wave, I feel stronger
I'm lost in the echoes of where I've been
Line by line
“I sit by the shore, watching the waves”
Open low and static: a single seated silhouette at the waterline, back to camera, the only still thing in a frame full of moving water. Hold the shot long enough to feel her not moving.
“They tell me stories of the paths I've paved”
Cut to her own footprints in the wet sand leading back to her, the trail already half-erased by the last wave. The path she paved is visibly dissolving behind her.
“The tide rolls in, then pulls away, / Just like the thoughts I've had today”
Lock a camera on the tideline and let one full wash advance over her bare feet and retreat. The camera never cuts; the thought arrives and leaves on its own.
“Waves of reflection, pulling me in”
Shoot straight down at the water's surface where her face reflects, then let a wave break the reflection into scattered light. Literal reflection, literally pulled apart.
“The water whispers secrets unknown”
Extreme close on foam hissing back through sand, sound mixed up loud so the retreating water is the whisper. No voice, just the sea talking.
“In the ocean's truth, I can't hide”
Turn her to face the lens for the first time, fully lit by the flat low sun, nothing to duck behind. The one frame in the film where she is exposed to camera.
“The sun dips low, casting golden light”
Golden hour raked hard across the wet sand so every ripple throws a long shadow. Warm side of the Straddie palette, all orange skim on the water.
“On memories that flicker just out of sight”
Rack focus off her to soft blurred figures further down the beach who never resolve, then rack back. Memory stays out of focus on purpose.
“The island breeze, it holds me close”
Let the onshore wind press her shirt and hair against her while she stays seated, the breeze doing the holding no person is there to do.
“Every ripple, a lesson learned”
Insert macro shots of single small ripples catching the gold light, each held for one beat like flashcards, cut on the word ripple.
“With every crash, a page is turned”
Match cut: a big wave collapses to white and on the crash cut to a page turning in a weathered handwritten notebook on the sand beside her. Sound of the wave carries the page.
“But maybe it's in the stillness, / Where I find it all”
Drop the sound almost to nothing and freeze the water in a near-still frame at slack tide, the one moment the sea stops. She finally exhales here.
“So I'll stay here a little while longer”
Wide shot as full dusk comes in and she is still the only one on the beach, deliberately not leaving while the light goes blue. Time-lapse the sky, keep her real-time and still.
“With each passing wave, I feel stronger”
For the first time she stands, and the incoming wave now breaks against her ankles instead of reaching an empty seat. Camera tilts up with her from sand to standing.
“Carried by the waves of today”
Final image: she walks up the dune path away from the water at last light, and the last wave erases the shape where she had been sitting all song. The shore keeps nothing.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I sit by the shore, watching the waves,
They tell me stories of the paths I’ve paved.
In the stillness, I can hear my mind,
Searching for the answers I’ve yet to find.
The tide rolls in, then pulls away,
Just like the thoughts I’ve had today.
Chorus
Waves of reflection, pulling me in,
I’m lost in the echoes of where I’ve been.
The water whispers secrets unknown,
And in these moments, I’ve found my own.
Waves of reflection, deep and wide,
In the ocean’s truth, I can’t hide.
Verse 2
The sun dips low, casting golden light,
On memories that flicker just out of sight.
The island breeze, it holds me close,
Reminding me of what matters most.
Every ripple, a lesson learned,
With every crash, a page is turned.
Chorus
Waves of reflection, pulling me in,
I’m lost in the echoes of where I’ve been.
The water whispers secrets unknown,
And in these moments, I’ve found my own.
Waves of reflection, deep and wide,
In the ocean’s truth, I can’t hide.
Bridge
I’ve been searching for meaning,
In the rise and the fall.
But maybe it’s in the stillness,
Where I find it all.
Chorus
Waves of reflection, pulling me in,
I’m lost in the echoes of where I’ve been.
The water whispers secrets unknown,
And in these moments, I’ve found my own.
Waves of reflection, deep and wide,
In the ocean’s truth, I can’t hide.
Bridge
I’ve been searching for meaning,
In the rise and the fall.
But maybe it’s in the stillness,
Where I find it all.
And in these moments, I’ve found my own.
Waves of reflection, deep and wide,
In the ocean’s truth, I can’t hide.
Outro
So I’ll stay here a little while longer,
With each passing wave, I feel stronger.
In the quiet, I’ll find my way,
Carried by the waves of today.
