Select a single task such as collecting and transferring a known substitute material.

Starship Size Mining Payloads
Explore a large mining payload through an Earth-based systems study with visible assumptions.
Follow the connections. Choose your direction.
The need worth working on.
A large launch vehicle does not by itself create a viable off-world mine. A payload would need to reach a selected destination, understand its material, operate equipment, manage power and handle its output. Each unresolved step can change the entire enterprise case.
What the enterprise could offer.
Develop a mission-design workbench for one proposed mining task. Retain the source's Starship-scale ambition as a design scenario while making vehicle interfaces, mission availability and partnerships explicitly unconfirmed. Start with a harmless terrestrial material-handling analogue and a transparent mass-and-power budget.
People to build with
- Space systems students and research teams
- Robotics developers studying remote material handling
- Founders comparing a component opportunity with a complete mining mission
A small analogue of one mining operation
Write the proposed mission environment and separate known inputs from assumptions.
Build or simulate the handling sequence with an engineering supervisor.
Record material moved, equipment interruptions and power use where measurable.
Update the mission model and identify the assumption that most changes its viability.
The first result
An analogue task record and an auditable mission model with unresolved interfaces highlighted.
What needs to be demonstrated.
Research frontier
The starting evidence
A terrestrial analogue can examine a limited handling task; it cannot demonstrate the viability of an off-world mine.
The open question
No destination, resource measurement, launch agreement, payload design or customer is confirmed by the source.
The next measurement
Measure the chosen handling task under repeatable terrestrial conditions and document where the analogy fails.
Build the means to deliver.
Useful capabilities and resources
- A space systems lead and robotics partner
- Safe substitute material and test equipment
- A mission model with versioned assumptions
A possible business model
Proposed engineering studies or subsystem development contracts, preceding any resource-production venture.
A leadership decision to practise
Choose the smallest subsystem the team can own and test. Keep speculative future resource value separate from a current customer contract.
People, consequences and decisions.
- The analogue may miss the actual environment.
- Transport and energy demands may dominate material value.
- An assumed launch interface may change the design.
If equality were being designed now...
- Could women lead the mission's technical and resource-governance decisions?
- Who benefits from the proposed resource activity and who can contest its assumptions?
Begin with women's own experiences across bodies, ages, cultures and places. Invite disagreement and choose a practical change together.

From the original suggestion to a working brief.
Developed from original enterprise 75 in the 500 Queens VC NEW Long presentation (slide 17) and the planning document (page 8). This expanded brief is a proposed development path, not evidence of an operating venture or a confirmed partner.
Original title: Starship Size Mining Payloads. The pilot, business model and learning connections on this page are proposed developments of that original idea.
