Choose one scientific or infrastructure objective and a clear success condition.

Starship Size Deep Space Payloads
Turn a large deep-space payload vision into a mission with a defined purpose and testable interfaces.
Follow the connections. Choose your direction.
The need worth working on.
Payload capacity is not a mission objective. Deep-space proposals also need communication, power, thermal control, navigation and a plan for faults far from a workshop. Founders can get lost in vehicle scale before defining what useful result a mission should return.
What the enterprise could offer.
Build a mission architecture and integration practice for one large-payload scenario. Use the original Starship wording as the historical concept title, without implying an agreement with a launch provider. Compare a large mission with smaller alternatives that might answer the same question.
People to build with
- Research teams developing a mission concept
- Subsystem founders seeking a realistic integration brief
- Education programmes teaching spacecraft trade-offs
A mission that earns its payload size
Compare the information or service delivered by a large mission and a smaller option.
Create a first interface map covering power, communications, thermal needs and operations.
Run a desktop fault scenario with independent technical reviewers.
Document which mission assumptions require external evidence before detailed design.
The first result
A mission concept review with alternative architectures, interfaces and an unresolved-assumptions register.
What needs to be demonstrated.
Research frontier
The starting evidence
Systems modelling can clarify a proposed mission; it does not establish launch access or flight readiness.
The open question
The original suggestion identifies no destination, payload, schedule, launch agreement or validated architecture.
The next measurement
Test the highest-impact subsystem assumption using a suitable model, public dataset or laboratory analogue.
Build the means to deliver.
Useful capabilities and resources
- A space systems engineer
- Subject specialists for the mission objective
- Independent reviewers and documented reference data
A possible business model
Mission study and subsystem integration services, with a hardware venture considered after a concrete customer requirement emerges.
A leadership decision to practise
Give the mission objective priority over vehicle prestige. Decide which interfaces the team can actually control and which depend on others.
People, consequences and decisions.
- A large architecture can accumulate untested dependencies.
- Communications and operations may limit the useful result.
- A visual mission model may look more mature than the evidence supports.
If equality were being designed now...
- Are care, access and workload part of mission design from the beginning?
- Can women outside established space organisations contribute useful subsystem work?
Begin with women's own experiences across bodies, ages, cultures and places. Invite disagreement and choose a practical change together.

Build alongside these ideas.
Explore a large mining payload through an Earth-based systems study with visible assumptions.
Research frontier
Investigate long-duration life support by measuring the limits of one resource loop.
Research frontier
Study the whole engineering chain behind a proposed fusion system for space.
Research frontier
Work backwards from a useful observation to the smallest satellite network that could provide it.
Research frontier
Follow existing public concept work.
Design a possible network of satellites using interactive orbit, sensor, launch and communications tools.
Explore possible futures for relationships, living systems, intelligence, movement, science and culture.
From the original suggestion to a working brief.
Developed from original enterprise 76 in the 500 Queens VC NEW Long presentation (slide 17) and the planning document (page 8). This expanded brief is a proposed development path, not evidence of an operating venture or a confirmed partner.
Original title: Starship Size Deep Space Payloads. The pilot, business model and learning connections on this page are proposed developments of that original idea.
