Site and traffic note
Working interpretation
- Activity area: the long reserve strip on the southern side of Claytons Road.
- Road-base area: the unsealed parking / bus turnaround area opposite.
- Crossing focus: near the eastern end of the proposed activity strip.
- Local issues: potholes, informal parking, speeding and people walking near the road while looking for koalas or wildlife.
This must be checked on site and with Council.
Core logic
The exercise park attracts people. People create crossing demand. The crossing creates a chance to fix the road edge. The combined project is stronger than each part alone.
What to ask Council
- Can the existing 40 km/h zone be slightly extended until just beyond the proposed crossing?
- Should the crossing be a zebra crossing, raised crossing, speed cushions, speed humps or another approved treatment?
- How can traffic calming preserve bus, waste, emergency and service vehicle access?
- Can potholes and the unsealed road-base edge be treated as part of the access works?
- Can the design also check a potable-water route for a drinking fountain?
Important wording
Use "traffic-calming and pedestrian-access assessment", not "approved crossing".
Final treatment is to be confirmed by Council traffic advice, sightlines, drainage, road function and service access.
