Official records connect the visits with discussion, while foundry access and a TSMC partnership remain separate questions. Minjerribah decisions stay with Traditional Owners and local community.

Brisbane ↔ Kaohsiung

Brisbane City Council says the sister-city relationship with Kaohsiung was formalised on 9 September 1997 to support trade, investment, business, education, tourism and cultural exchange.

TSMC’s 2025 Annual Report says N2 entered high-volume manufacturing in Q4 2025 and that multiple 2 nm fab phases are being prepared in Hsinchu and Kaohsiung Science Parks.

What public sources leave open

Aura–TSMC agreement: absent from the public record

  • Kaohsiung is Brisbane’s sister city; TSMC is a company operating within a much larger semiconductor ecosystem.
  • The official sources reviewed as at 9 August 2026 record no sister-city relationship between Redland City and Kaohsiung.
  • The same sources record no Aura, Redlands or Brisbane foundry agreement.
  • PDK, mask, intellectual-property, capacity and investment access each involve their own agreements.

A 12-member cross-party delegation led by Deputy Speaker Tseng Chun-chieh was welcomed in Brisbane. Kaohsiung’s official account discussed TSMC’s investment and the city’s semiconductor corridor.

Queensland capability today

A lab bridge, not a 3 nm fab.

The Australian National Fabrication Facility Queensland Node provides open-access research capability through UQ and Griffith, spanning micro/nanofabrication, device development, microfluidics, MEMS, silicon carbide and characterisation.

This supports sensors, test structures, packaging research, training and prototypes. Advanced mobile-processor production at 7 nm or 3 nm sits elsewhere in the present ecosystem.

Country boundary

Country holds its own authority in every local-silicon story.

Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation describes QALSMA as responsible for planning, management, protection, research and caring for land and sea Country. That public role places Traditional Owner governance and community purpose at the centre of every Minjerribah field programme.

The presence of local sand or minerals says nothing by itself about semiconductor-grade feedstock, lawful extraction, community consent or environmental sense. The digital twin keeps leaving materials in place visible beside many other futures.
