Choose a non-occupied resource-loop question with an experienced engineer.

Starship Size Eternal Life Support
Investigate long-duration life support by measuring the limits of one resource loop.
Follow the connections. Choose your direction.
The need worth working on.
The word 'eternal' expresses the source's long-term ambition. A working life-support proposal must instead describe losses, consumables, repairs, contamination and recovery from failure. People depending on a system need honest limits and maintainable equipment, not a promise of endless operation.
What the enterprise could offer.
Develop a resource-loop modelling and testing programme for a future large habitat. Begin with one non-occupied subsystem, such as a supervised water-use simulation, and connect it to a documented inventory. Keep the Starship-scale framing as a scenario, with no assumed launch or spacecraft partnership.
People to build with
- Habitat researchers studying resource management
- Engineers comparing maintainable recovery systems
- Educators connecting space design with local water and energy questions
One loop with every loss recorded
Draw each input, output, storage point and maintenance action.
Use measured safe test data or published reference data for an initial model.
Introduce a component failure and track the required intervention.
Have another team reconstruct the resource balance from the records.
The first result
A resource-balance model, maintenance scenario and evidence-backed list of unresolved losses.
What needs to be demonstrated.
Research frontier
The starting evidence
NASA operates and develops systems that recover water and manage cabin resources. That does not establish indefinite closed-loop life support.
The open question
The concept supplies no complete loop design, food system, repair capability or validated duration.
The next measurement
Measure or independently check the losses and consumable needs of the selected subsystem.
Build the means to deliver.
Useful capabilities and resources
- An experienced life-support or process engineer
- A non-occupied test arrangement or validated reference dataset
- A clear inventory and failure-analysis method
A possible business model
Research and engineering studies could support component development, with any occupied use requiring a separate qualification programme.
A leadership decision to practise
Treat maintenance and human workload as design requirements. Make someone responsible for identifying what cannot be recovered or repaired.
People, consequences and decisions.
- Small unrecorded losses accumulate over time.
- One successful subsystem does not validate a complete habitat.
- A failure may require consumables or skills absent from the proposed mission.
If equality were being designed now...
- Whose maintenance and care labour makes the proposed habitat function?
- Does the model accommodate varied bodies, daily routines and access needs?

From the original suggestion to a working brief.
Developed from original enterprise 77 in the 500 Queens VC NEW Long presentation (slide 17) and the planning document (page 8). This expanded brief is a proposed development path, not evidence of an operating venture or a confirmed partner.
Original title: Starship Size Eternal Life Support. The pilot, business model and learning connections on this page are proposed developments of that original idea.
