Here is the honest state of the art: which warnings genuinely work today, which are real research still being proven, and the "if this, then that" logic that turns a wall of raw data into one plain sentence a person can act on. Watching costs nothing and wastes no one's time; that's why it comes first.

The logic is deliberately simple: watch a real number, and when it crosses a line, say so in plain words. IF the solar wind speed jumps and the interplanetary field turns south, THEN a geomagnetic storm is likely and it's time to protect sensitive equipment. IF the seafloor shakes and the tide gauges lurch together, THEN move to high ground now, don't wait for a siren. Complexity lives in the sensors; simplicity lives in what the island actually hears.

Solar wind and the magnetic field

the first line of warning

IF solar wind speed climbs past about 500 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field turns south, THEN a geomagnetic storm is likely within hours, and it's time to protect the grid.

Solar flares and eruptions

IF a strong flare or a coronal mass ejection is seen leaving the sun aimed at Earth, THEN the storm's arrival time and strength can be estimated in advance.

Seafloor and tide sensors

IF the seafloor shakes with the signature of a big undersea event, and nearby tide gauges lurch in a way normal tides don't, THEN treat it as a tsunami warning immediately, no waiting for confirmation.

Ground swarms and slow tremors

IF a monitored volcanic system shows rising ground, swarms of small quakes, and warming gas emissions together, THEN raise the alert level well before any eruption.

Radon, water chemistry and animal behaviour

IF radon gas or groundwater chemistry shifts sharply with no weather explanation, or IF community reports of unusual animal behaviour cluster in one area, THEN treat it as one more vote in the same room, not proof on its own.

The solar cycle and seismic correlation

Why watching always wins

  • The mature streams (space weather, tsunami, volcanic monitoring) cost nothing extra to plug into: the world already runs them in public.
  • The disputed streams (radon, animal behaviour, solar-seismic correlation) cost almost nothing to log honestly, and every one of them either strengthens the case or quietly falls away as more data comes in.
  • A community that watches openly never has to win an argument to justify watching. That's the whole point of a watchtower: it works whether the frontier turns out right or wrong.

What we'd see if it's the big cycle.

Speculative

The largest idea this site takes seriously is that the whole solar system, not just Earth, goes through long cycles of change. Argue about it forever, or write down what you would expect to see if it were true and then go and look. The list below is the second option. It came from the frontier itself, which makes it a fair test: these things either turn up in the coming years, or they don't. Both outcomes are worth having, and turning it into something anyone can run is the honest way to settle it.

Close to home

  • Planets turning or tracking a little differently.
  • Planets giving off more energy than they used to.
  • Other planets' atmospheres changing, not just ours.
  • More visitors arriving from outside the solar system.
  • Earth's own weather packing more punch.
  • More magnetic oddities, of the kind already growing over the South Atlantic.
  • Anything plainly out of the ordinary that nobody expected.

Out among the stars

  • Nearby stars brightening and dimming in ways that don't fit.
  • Their chemistry signatures shifting.
  • More flares and outbursts from them than usual.
  • Bursts of high-energy radiation with no tidy pattern.
  • Planets around them changing how long they take to orbit.
  • Signals that look like somebody is talking.

Why a list like this is worth more than an argument

  • It can be wrong. A claim that can't fail can't teach you anything, and this one names its own evidence in advance.
  • Most of it is already being measured by somebody, publicly, for other reasons. Watching costs the island almost nothing.
  • It sorts itself out over time without anyone having to win a debate, which is the only way a small community can weigh a very big claim fairly.
