Executive summary
Distinctive escape rooms across Australia, connected by journeys worth taking, skills worth carrying forward and fresh reasons to return.
An Australia-wide network designing escape rooms, linking them into tourism routes and renewing the catalogue for repeat visits. Recorded play supports reflection on language and teamwork, followed by practice in another room or everyday setting. Recording is the standard design, with a clear opt-out.
Aura of Intelligence connects participant-directed learning across visits. p4a-xyz-cinema connects local stories, civic scenarios and public explanations. Paid contractors supply creative, trade and specialist work; AI assists research and computation.

Market and venue evidence
Venue capacity, published offers and the evidence needed for a local market case.
| Operator | Single venue | Rooms | Simultaneous players | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Escape This | Perth CBD | 14 | 108 | M10 |
| Escape This | Northbridge | 9 | 62 | M10 |
| Escape This | Sydney CBD | 10 | 66 | M10 |
| Escape This | Manly | 3 | 18 | M10 |
| Escape This | Melbourne CBD | 12 | 82 | M10 |
| Fox in a Box | Brisbane | 10 | 60 | M07 |
| Escape This subtotal only | Scope | Rooms | Sum of published room maxima |
|---|---|---|---|
| Five venues listed above | Perth CBD, Northbridge, Sydney CBD, Manly and Melbourne CBD | 48 | 336 |
The subtotal is the sum of room maxima across the five Escape This venues. Corporate-event limits may differ. National totals for the other operators have not been established.

Network and tourism
Linked destinations, repeat visits and settlement between participating businesses.
A local room supplies a complete adventure; linked destinations offer different stories and opportunities to use the same skill. Possible products include a day route, regional weekend, longer passport journey, employer retreat and school series.
Brisbane, Redlands and Minjerribah provide one route concept. Melbourne, Beechworth and Albury provide another, with an existing example of games moving between operators. Routes require actual venue availability, travel time and independently priced partner services.

Room design and deployment
Room formats, recorded play and paid installation supported by JIT learning.
| Format | Space and cost to establish |
|---|---|
| Hosted rooms | Game areas plus the host's actual reception, reflection, amenities, storage and access provision. |
| Dedicated venue | Game modules and all support spaces, services, premises costs and staffing. |
| Partner installation or replacement | Measured module, interfaces with the existing venue and paid commissioning. |
Whole venue area = game areas + reflection and teaching + reception + control + storage + amenities + quiet space + circulation. Use measured usable areas. No national average room area is established by the supplier sample.

Cost evidence and calculators
Published unit prices, new and used options, and the unpriced delivery scope.
| Item | Advertised each | Scope note | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| RØDE Wireless PRO dual kit | $385 | Two transmitters; observed promotional price. | R106 |
| Zoom LiveTrak L-8 | $715 | Recorder/mixer; backorder displayed. | R108 |
| Hosa CMP-159 cable | $22 | Stereo breakout cable; observed promotional price. | R109 |
| Refurbished HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Mini | $399 | Grade A, i5 tenth generation, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. | R115 |
| CyberPower CP900EPFCLCDa UPS | $299 | 900 VA / 540 W; actual load and runtime require testing. | R116 |
Quantities, compatibility, storage, playback, cleaning, transfer and multi-room engineering remain separate. Listed prices do not establish a complete recording system.

Finance formulas and calculators
Turnover, paid work, contribution and settlement using editable inputs.
Available sessions = rooms × locations × starts per room/day × trading days − blocked room-days × starts per room/day. Blocked room-days count one closed room for one trading day across the whole comparison; closures already excluded from trading days are not deducted twice.
Sold sessions = available sessions × sold share.
Paid visits = sold sessions × average paying group size.
Ticket receipts = paid visits × price per person.
Sales excluding GST = taxable receipts ÷ (1 + GST rate).
The summary calculator scales one room through multiple locations. Mixed products use the sum of each product's sold sessions × group size × price, rather than applying one average ticket to incompatible group tiers.

Language teamwork and skill transfer
Recorded exchanges, participant interpretation and practice in a new setting.
Recorded play gives a shared event to examine after the game. Review words alongside surrounding turns, task state and participant accounts. Computational analysis can identify candidate moments; people check attribution and meaning.
| Pattern | Example | Reflection focus |
|---|---|---|
| Blame | This is all your fault. | Events, information and responsibility. |
| Contempt | You are useless. | Effect of a judgement about the person. |
| Global label | You always ruin everything. | Specific event versus identity claim. |
| Exclusion | Nobody asked you. | Contribution attempted and response. |
| Pressure | Do it my way or you are out. | Choices, agreement and boundaries. |
| Self-judgement | I am stupid. | Difficulty treated as identity. |
| Premature hopelessness | Nothing will work. | Evidence and untried options. |
| Silencing certainty | Obviously I am right. | Alternative explanations considered. |
| Deflection | It was only a joke. | Intention, reception and repair. |
Anger, criticism, refusal and firm boundaries can be appropriate. Profanity alone is not a measure of harm. Culture, banter and the participants' interpretations matter. Quiet participation may include reading, making or thinking. Participants can correct the record.

Research computation and paid work
Evidence and computation supporting skilled human work and founder decisions.
AI can compare cited market offers, calculate quantities and sensitivities, draft design alternatives, organise source records and prepare JIT material. Outputs retain their evidence and assumptions for human review. The business direction and decisions remain with Luke.
The software calculator prices defined work by usage. A model name identifies a rate benchmark, not an appointed agent or an operating role.

Renewal and rotation
Replacement costs, downtime and fresh content for repeat visits.
Track story versions, props and mechanisms, recording and control equipment, furniture and fixed services separately. Renew against condition, support, repeat demand and the cost of alternatives.
Annual replacement provision = sum of each asset's replacement cost ÷ funding interval. This is a cash-planning contribution, not depreciation or a prediction of failure. Enter repair, freight, installation and downtime separately.

Local enterprise and partnerships
Local ownership options, tourism connections and cultural authority.
Existing operators can install rooms or join distribution. Tourism businesses can host or supply linked experiences. Makers, designers and trades can supply paid work. Co-operatives can own assets and employ people. Compare the actual ownership, prices and obligations of each arrangement.
Mutual Futures offers a connection to succession and paid knowledge transfer. 500 Queens connects women-led enterprise and investment development. Councils and tourism bodies can contribute precinct information, premises evidence, event calendars and supplier connections.

Research priorities
Evidence needed to develop a room location or network offer.
| Question | Evidence to obtain |
|---|---|
| Which customers will book and return? | Responses to actual offers, local booking availability, acquisition costs and repeat use. |
| Which format fits? | Measured rooms and support space, access, recording opt-out design and peak staffing. |
| What does delivery cost? | Comparable scopes, dated prices, delivered new/used options, paid hours and payment terms. |
| Does the learning method work? | Independent play, recording quality, review time, participant accounts and transfer into a different task. |
| Does another location add value? | Its own demand and costs, usable JIT records, distinctive content and redeemed cross-venue bookings. |
An operating test would answer a defined subset of these questions. Its scope and duration follow the question and cost. No opening date or rollout schedule is established. The research register records the resulting choices.
